During Seth and Ken’s 2008 trip to Germany, they spoke with a number of historians from the Schoen family’s hometown of Vacha. These historians had recorded not just the history of the town, but of its Jewish people, who were now gone. Günter Hermes was one of those historians. Here is an audio interview Ken conducted with Günter regarding Vacha and some of its history. The audio is in German.
Olaf Ditzel, a colleague of Günter’s, received the 2002 Obermayer German Jewish History Award for his work alongside Mr. Hermes and fellow Vacha historian Inge Wimmer.
